Someone posted a LinkedIn Answers request for 25-word definitions of Supply Chain Management. (The guy who asked the question then picked as “best response” an answer that was 100 words. Go figure.)
Here is my definition:
Supply Chain Management is matching the means of production to market needs while meeting the objectives of the business for cost, quality, service, and risk.
